The Grade 4 Team

All the learners are completely Learning Area taught and move from teacher to teacher. Please encourage them to pack their school bags the night before; too many of them carry unnecessary books and stationery that is not needed every day, as this too is not good for their backs. Please ensure that your child knows their full name, residential address, telephone numbers, this should all be filled in the front of the Montrose Primary homework diary, it is very important that all phone numbers are correct. The class teachers will check the homework diaries on a regular basis.
The phase H.O.D will be checking these diaries from time to time.
School starts at 07:20.
If you happen to be running late, please bring your child to the front office on arrival, and sign your child in.
We do understand that there are some circumstances that are beyond control, but please conform to the rules.
School ends at 13:30; please do not pick up your child later than 14:00 unless they are attending an extra curricular activity. If you are going to be late, please enroll your child at aftercare with Mrs. Carbarns, if you would like details, please contact the school office.
If your child is at school late; that is till an unreasonable hour, he/she will be taken to the police station where your child will be safer, than sitting at an empty school.
Please ensure your child is at school promptly on a Wednesday as Assessments are written on these days. The assessment starts promptly at 7:30 am and ends at 8:25 am, if your child arrives late, they will not be given any additional time. If your child is late on any other day, they will forfeit the first lesson, so as not to disrupt the other learners in class.
All money must be placed in an envelope with all the necessary information on it. (Child’s name and surname, class, amount and occasion i.e. BLYDE RIVER CANYON TOUR).
we do not always have time to check with the office on a daily basis.
Cell phones are not permitted at Montrose Primary School. Any cell phone brought onto the school premises will be confiscated, and returned to the legal guardian at the end of that school term. Parents, we urge you to monitor what your child has access to via their cell phones. MXIT and Facebook are not only means of communication, but also a means to bullying peers at school. We are not held liable for anything occurring via these or any other type of communication method between your children.
If your child is caught with a cell phone, you will be contacted and informed that the phone has been confiscated until the end of term.
We encourage you to make contact with your child’s teacher and please inform them of any circumstances that might be pertinent to your child’s well being. Please follow the correct channels of communication: Class teacher or Learning Area Manager, Grade Facilitator, H.O.D Intersen Phase, Deputy Principal and then finally the Principal.
If you wish to make an interview with one of the teachers, please do so via the office. Each teacher has allocated times, a morning and an afternoon to allow meetings to take place without any interruptions.Should you miss a meeting with a teacher, please reschedule that meeting as soon as possible. Please avoid quick meetings after or before school with the teachers, as all the staff have to get to extra-murals or meetings, and we can not be late.
Please ensure that your child uniform is clearly marked with his/her name.
Correct uniform is to be worn at all times, both at school and on the sports field.
The blazer is a compulsory part of the school uniform, and is to be worn every single day.
The girls may only wear brown or yellow hair bands in their hair.
Jewellery - Earrings, small little studs, no diamante earrings. Only religious chains may be worn, it may not be visible.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
We encourage your child to participate in at least one of the activities on the School enrichment program each term, this is very important for their overall development.
PARENTS LIBARARY:
There are superb books on a variety of parent topics in our schools Media Centre. We urge you to please use this facility. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Hartnack. Please make all effort to attend all parents evening/talks. These talks are sourced for parents to inform them about the child of today and how to deal with certain issues.
Absenteeism – Should your child be absent from school for any reason the onus is upon your child to catch up any missed work, and not the teacher’s responsibility to do so for them. If your child is absent for three or more days, or is absent on a Monday or Friday, a doctors certificate will be required on his/ her arrival back to school.
Homework –Learners will receive English, Afrikaans and Mathematics homework daily. Homework is an integral part of a daily routine for learners; it consolidates work done in class and learners have to do the work on their own, so it will show where they succeed and where they need to ask for more help to revise. Homework diaries need to be signed daily by parents or guardians, not only the aftercare teachers. All learners are given enough time to copy down their daily homework per lesson; it’s up to them to write their homework down and NOT the teachers.
Homework for each grade can be seen on the website and will be updated weekly.
Newsletters – These are sent out weekly every Tuesday, please ensure that you ask your child for the newsletter as very important information about school events are communicated to the parents.
